There are about 500 castles, manors and ruins in the beautiful country of Slovenia. Many castles has been restored to house museums, galleries, restaurants or even a five star hotel. The attractiveness of Slovenia’s castles is demonstrated by the fact that four of them are among the ten most visited tourist attractions in Slovenia.
For anyone who wants to soak up the culture, history and special features of Slovenia, the doors to museums and galleries are open. Of the more than 200 museums, the major collections are kept in the National, Natural Science and Ethnographic museums.

Slovenia’s towns and cities are adorned with some fabulous burgher architecture that is now generally converted for public use. The highest number of palaces or urban mansions can be found on the coast, especially in Koper.
There are thousands of churches in Slovenia. There are very few villages without a church, and there are also many remote hilltop churches. Many of Slovenia’s churches are listed as monuments of cultural heritage.
