For an hour and a half we were like Hobbits in Lord of the Rings, threading our way along a subtly-lit path through the stalagmites and a jaw-dropping cavern that I guess would have swallowed the world’s biggest sports stadium.

Slovenian and Croatian Istria – 4 day tour
Taste the sea
DAY 1: LJUBLJANA, POSTOJNA CAVE AND PREDJAMA CASTLE
Arriving to Ljubljana in the morning, the capital of Slovenia. We will go on a city tour that consists of a walk around the old city centre and a tourist train ride to the castle hill, known for its outlook tower with a beautiful panoramic view of the city. Of course you will have some free time to explore beautiful streets on your own or just enjoying coffee on the banks of Ljubljanica River. After the lunch we will head to Postojna to enjoy its popular Karst cave with spectacular stones, pillars and limestone curtains. Only few kilometres away from the cave we will visit Predjama castle with dramatic setting in the gaping mouth of the mountain. Overnight in Postojna’s hotel.
DAY 2: KARST AND COAST MYSTERY
In the morning we will head to the beautiful Slovenian coast. We will walk through narrow streets of the former island, Izola and admire its Venetian monuments. We will continue the tour to Secovlje Salina Nature Park known for the salt flats that are the northernmost in the Mediterranean. The salt is still produced in the traditional way based on a 700-year old method. You will definitely fall in love with the picturesque villages in the interior of the Slovenian Istria, which all carry in them the residue of old days. In the afternoon we will reach everyone’s favourite town on the Slovenian coast – Piran with its medieval narrow street an houses. Overnight in Portoroz or Piran
Soon after the breakfast we will continue the tour to the most marvellous places in the Croatian Istria, the area known for the good wine and food, such as truffles, prosciutto and cheese. First destination will be Motovun, picturesque small town on the top of the hill known for the film festival and great restaurants with local food. After we will head to Poreč and Rovinj, two beautiful Istrian fisherman’s towns with amazing Venetian architecture and seaside promenade. The last destination this day will be Pula, historical centre of Istria with the famous roman amphitheatre, one of the most preserved in the world.
DAY 4: FROM PULA THROUGH RIJEKA TO THE AIRPORT
After the breakfast and some free time for souvenir shopping we will head from Pula to Rijeka, the third largest city in Croatia which is also one of the busiest seaports in Croatia. From Rijeka we will departure to Ljubljana or Zagreb where we will finish the Istrian tour.
